Hope you all have had a nice trip home, and hopefully come back and see us next year again in hameln!

On 04/11/2014, Lt.Col Scriven closed the gate of the “GORDON BARRACKS” one last time under British responsibility. Eight months later, on 19.07.2015 met the entire garrison of Hamelin about 200 members of various squadrons and regiments for the first time after closure!

The first had come as early as Thursday and took advantage of the nice weather to watch “their” city. The Wine Festival and of course the former favourtie pubs of guys from England were on the visitors plan! The “bathtub”, the (former called Icebox) “brewhouse” and also the “Schultheiss” were popular targets!

On Saturday, a boat trip was organized with the “White Fleet”, passing it went to old domains of the Royal Engineers! From the landing pier of the “White Fleet” it went on Wouldham park on the Highway of Ohr to a few hundred meters above the former NATO military training area close to Ohr! There was turned and after 2 hours of boats tour they returned back in Hamelin! The afternoon and evening served for talking about events in recent years,in some cases decades, in which the former comrades haven’t seen each other!

David Rudd, for many years living in Northern Ireland, took the opportunity, despite missing a flight he took every opportunity to come to Hameln anyway! Since 44 years had passed of his stationing in Hamelin.

Chris and his wife drove over 600 miles to join the Reunion! But it was worth it, because his wife met a colleague again, with whom she has worked in the medical center of the “GORDON BARRACKS”.

On Saturday evening, wine festival, for sure! Everything worked out well, great weather, great atmosphere!

On Sunday we all met at the “Schultheiss”, because a visit to the “GORDON BARRACKS” was planned. Thomas Haeckel of the British-German-Club in Hameln had the keys and welcomed the British comrades. Many were wistfully during the subsequent walk through the barracks, it was a long time their home!

After the 1-hour trip through the Barracks, it went to the “Graduation BBQ” in the Schultheiss Restaurant!

Have a nice trip home, and hopefully come back and see us next year again in Hameln!
