2014/05/16 – DISBANDMENT – Exhibition started at the Museum

Building bridges, Building bridges
This is the motto of the exhibition in the Hameln Museum about the British troops stationed in Hameln. On 16.05.2014 the official opening of the exhibition with a small opening ceremony in the Nicolai church in Hameln!
The celebration of the choir of soldiers’ women was opened! This was followed by a welcome speech by the Mayor of Hameln, Susanne Lippmann. Ms Lippmann thanked all the museum’s helpers and the Royal Engineers for their commitment. Afterwards, the chairman of the museum association Klaus Arnold welcomed all guests present! Major General (ret) Mungo Melvin CB OBE of the city of Hameln received great honor. In his speech he said that the Hameln site was probably the most beautiful location of all the Royal Engineers in Germany, and perhaps even the whole world, and will always remain in good memory of all soldiers! Stefan Daberkow the museum director and Dr. Beate Bollmann formed the final conference team! You also expressed your gratitude to all the museum’s helpers and friends, and especially to the 28 Engineer Regiment, who have brought some exhibits from the Royal Engineer Museum in Chatham! The celebration of the Children’s and Youth Choir of the Weser School in Hameln was exceptionally musically underpinned.
Then we went to the museum, where the guests were able to get a little impression about the exhibition! Astonishing, that so many exhibits have come together in half a year, noted Stefan Daberkow! Interesting discussions were held, and some of the former Royal Engineers even saw some in the photos!

    Hi Graham

I served in B Troop 40 Sqn from around 1967 to 1969 when I was posted to NI. I do remember your face and in fact I appear in a couple of your photographs. One on scheme and the other in Berlin. Glad someone kept pictures from those times. I took some but they were on a Polaroid camera and all the photos have faded (as have I).

    Regards

    Steve

    1. Great to hear from you! Thanks for the message! I think Graham will be happy to hear from you! Cheers Arnd
