Exercise “TRIANGULAR FLIGHT”
From 19 to 30 March 1990, the 42 Field Squadron RE of the 35 Engineer Regiment was deployed in and around Emmerthal for manoeuvres. A total of around 200 soldiers took part in the exercise.
Mined areas were laid in the meadows along the Emmer, and bridge construction across the river was also practised. The villages of Ohr, Amelgatzen and Welsede were particularly affected. As in many previous years, one of the main exercises involved the simulated demolition of the Valentini Bridge between Kirch- and Hagenohsen. The bridge was “blown up” several times during the manoeuvres.
I saw the troops countless times during this period. Their FV432 armoured personnel carriers were usually parked on the Hagenohsen side of the Weser, beneath the bridge, making them harder to spot from the air.
If anyone has photographs of these manoeuvres, I would be very grateful to receive them. I will scan the images, and the originals will, of course, be returned safely.

Vom 19. bis zum 30. März 1990 war die 42 Field Squadron RE des 35 Engineer Regiment in Emmerthal und Umgebung im Manöver. Rund 200 Soldaten nahmen an der Übung teil.
In den Emmerwiesen wurden Minenfelder angelegt und das Brückenbauen über die Emmer erprobt. Betroffen waren insbesondere die Ortschaften Ohr, Amelgatzen und Welsede. Wie in vielen Jahren zuvor gehörte auch die Schein-Sprengung der Valentinibrücke zwischen Kirch- und Hagenohsen zu den Hauptübungen. Während des Manövers wurde die Brücke mehrfach „gesprengt“.
Ich habe die Truppen in dieser Zeit unzählige Male gesehen. Ihre FV432-Schützenpanzer stellten sie meist auf der Hagenohsener Weserseite unter der Brücke ab, um sie vor Luftaufklärung besser zu tarnen.
Falls jemand Fotos dieser Manöver besitzt, würde ich mich sehr über eine Kontaktaufnahme freuen. Ich digitalisiere die Aufnahmen gerne – die Originale gehen selbstverständlich unversehrt zurück.
