welches seinen Spitznamen „Die hards“ vom 57th Regiment of Food (West Middlesex) geerbt hat!

The Middlesex Regiment is (was) a traditional regiment,

which his nickname “The Die hards” from the 57th Regiment of Food (West Middlesex) has inherited!

The 57th received the nickname after the Battle of Albuera in

Spanish War of Independence, in Great Britain this Battle is called Peninsular War!

A war framed by the Napoleonic wars,

where Portugal and Spain fought with England against the superior forces of France!

During the Battle of Albuera was the horse of the commanding officer of the 57th Regiment of Food, Colonel Inglis, shot away.

He himself badly wounded and with his unit completely outnumbered he shouted:

“Die hard 57th, Die hard”.

These words motivated his men so strong that they could win the battle for themselves!

Since that day, it was the 16th May 1811, these words are the nickname of the regiment.

And in the Coat of Arms of the Regiment they proudly wore the inscription ALBUHERA.

Then the regiment became the 1st Battalion Middlesex Regiment!

And after many reformations of the British Army,

the regiment is now integrated into the Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment.

Before, the regiment was amalgamated with some other Regiments to the Queens Regiment!
