Bridge for the Horse Riding Club in Emmern
As in several previous years, the Royal Engineers from Hameln once again offered their assistance to the clubs and institutions of Emmerthal in 1986. The Emmerthal Riding and Driving Club was hosting its traditional tournament, but the small River Emmer divided the event grounds into two halves. A bridge would have greatly eased matters for both participants and organisers.
The organisers therefore turned to John W. W. Augar, the liaison officer at the time. He dispatched a troop of the 35 Engineer Regiment / 37 Field Squadron RE to provide support. The unit was under the command of Lieutenant Tony Franckland, who regarded the construction of a bridge across the Emmer as an ideal field exercise for his men.
Municipal Director Martin Delker officially opened the bridge and expressed his gratitude to the British soldiers for their efforts. To him, the structure symbolised a clear sign of German–British friendship and solidarity.

Eine Brücke für den Reiterverein in Emmern
Wie schon in einigen Jahren zuvor stellten sich die Royal Engineers aus Hameln den Emmerthaler Vereinen und Institutionen auch 1986 wieder hilfsbereit zur Seite. Der Emmerthaler Reit- und Fahrverein richtete sein traditionelles Turnier aus, doch der kleine Fluss Emmer teilte das Veranstaltungsgelände in zwei Hälften. Eine Überbrückung hätte vieles erleichtert – für Teilnehmer wie Organisatoren.
Die Verantwortlichen wandten sich daher an John W. W.Sugar, den damaligen Verbindungsbeamten. Er entsandte einen Troop des 35 Engineer Regiment / 37 Field Squadron, um Unterstützung zu leisten. Die Einheit stand unter dem Kommando von Leutnant Tony Franckland, der den Brückenbau über die Emmer als ideale Geländeübung für seine Männer nutzte.
Gemeindedirektor Martin Delker übergab die Brücke offiziell ihrer Bestimmung und dankte den britischen Soldaten für ihren Einsatz. Für ihn symbolisierte das Bauwerk ein deutliches Zeichen deutsch-britischer Freundschaft und Verbundenheit.
