29 Field Squadron RE – 35 Engineer Regiment
EXERCISE “RHINE WINE”

This exercise took place from 23/08/1965 to 04/09/1965. The 29th Field Squadron RE trained together with US troops near Guntersblum! The Rhine was closed to all shipping from 6:00 PM on the 2nd of September to 2:00 AM on the 3rd of September. Many thanks to Tony Smith for this information!

Diese Übung fand statt vom 23.08.1965 – 04.09.1965. Die 29 Field Squadron RE übte zusammen mit US Truppen in der Nähe von Guntersblum! Der Rhein war vom 2 auf den 3 September zwischen 18.00 und 2.00 Uhr für die gesamte Schiffahrt gesperrt Herzlichen Dank an Tony Smith für diese Informationen!

    Hi Tony, I was in 3 troop 29 about the same time as you. It’s a shock to see me in two of your rhine photos. I used to knock about with Geordie Rowntree, Goldie, Ritchie. Memories of Bad Pyrmont and the Spelunka Bar still come to mind. Thanks for the memories…

      Hi Dave,
      Fancy hearing from you after all this time ! Life was great, way back then, lots of happy memories.
      Pleased to say I’m still alive and kicking and in good health (at the age of 71) and I hope you are well too.
