This Squadron was stationed in Hameln under the command of the 23 Field Engineer Regiment in the years 1949-1950. Hank Lawrence was some time later with this unit. The 5th Field Squadron RE remained faithful to Hameln. After the transfer to Napier Barracks Dortmund, they always came back to their bridgecamps in the Weserbergland. The photos that Hank has made are from the years 1960-1961, because at that time he was with the 5th Field Squadron on the road. They were taken on the Training Area “Ohr Park” and impressively show the work of the Royal Engineers in Hameln

Diese Squadron war in den Jahren 1949-1950 in Hameln unter dem Kommando des 23 Field Engineer Regiments stationiert. Hank Lawrence war einige Zeit später bei dieser Einheit. Die 5th Field Squadron RE blieb aber Hameln treu. Nach der Verlegung in die Napier Barracks Dortmund, kamen sie doch immer wieder zu Ihren Bridgecamps in das Weserbergland zurück. die Fotos die Hank gemacht hat stammen aus den Jahren 1960-1961, denn zu dieser Zeit war er mit der 5th Field Squadron unterwegs. Sie siond entstanden auf dem Truppenübungsplatz Ohr und zeigen eindrucksvoll die Arbeit der Royal Engineers in Hameln.

I was a sapper in the 23rd field engineers in 1951 to 1953 I was stationed at brackel
We spent a lot of time in hameln we camped on the side of the weser playing around with pontoons
We also spent a lot of time on the mohne dam when we did our waterman ship
We use to go out in the boat &touch the place the bomb hi
We use to camp in a old barn which was at the end of the dam wall
