The British troops were always helpful and present whenever there were problems. Much was done discreetly, without attracting attention. Just like that, relatively unbureaucratically. In some situations, it must be said: What would the district have done without the help of the British forces during the years of their stationing here?
Honorary District Fire Chief Dieter Wortmann took the initiative during his service and had the following idea: to place a tank wagon for training purposes on the grounds of the Fire Brigade Technical Center in Kirchohsen. No sooner said than done, a wagon was quickly found, as the company Kaminski Waggonbau in Hameln provided one free of charge, which was even renovated beforehand. Deutsche Bahn agreed to transport the wagon for free to the Grohnde nuclear power plant. There, they had the means to lift the wagon from the tracks onto a heavy-duty transporter using the power plant’s machine hall crane. But how to get the wagon from the nuclear power plant to the Fire Brigade Technical Center in Kirchohsen? For this transport task, Wortmann approached the British Army in Hameln and promptly received support. Alan Tyson-Carter, the liaison officer at the time, established the connection between Wortmann and the 65 Corps Support Squadron RE. The 65 Corps Support Squadron was willing and happy to help. They arrived at the power plant with a low-loader and a Seddon Atkinson tractor unit, and the power plant’s machine hall crane lifted the wagon onto the low-loader. The journey from the power plant to the Fire Brigade Technical Center in Kirchohsen on Reherstraße was slow and safe. Two mobile cranes from the 65 Corps Support Squadron, along with their crane operators, were waiting there. The wagon was hooked to the cranes’ jibs with chains and gently lifted onto the site, which had been prepared by the THW and Emmerthal’s construction yard. Thanks to Alan Tyson-Carter, the 65 Corps Support Squadron RE, and of course, Humphrey, the squadron’s mascot.

Die britischen Truppen waren immer hilfsbereit und zugegen, wenn es irgendwo Probleme gab. Vieles wurde ohne Aufsehen zu erregen erledigt. Einfach so, relativ unbürokratisch. In manchen Situationen muss man es einfach so sagen: Was wäre der Landkreis ohne Hilfe der britischen Streitkräfte in den Jahren der Stationierung hier.
Ehrenkreisbrandmeister Dieter Wortmann ergriff in seiner Dienstzeit die Initiative und hatte folgende Idee: Ein Kesselwaggon für Ausbildungszwecke auf das Gelände der Feuerwehr Technischen Zentrale in Kirchohsen zu stellen. Gesagt getan, ein Waggon war schnell gefunden, denn die Firma Kaminski Waggonbau in Hameln stellte einen kostenlos zur Verfügung, der vorher sogar noch renoviert wurde. Die Deutsche Bahn erklärte sich bereit, den Waggon umsonst bis zum Kernkraftwerk Grohnde zu bringen. Dort wiederum hat man Möglichkeiten, um den Waggon von den Schienen auf einen Schwerlasttransporter zu heben und zwar in der Maschinenhalle. Wie nun aber den Waggon vom Kernkraftwerk bis zur FTZ in Kirchohsen? Für diese Transportaufgabe hat Wortmann bei der britischen Armee in Hameln angefragt und auch prompte Unterstützung erhalten. Alan Tyson-Carter der damalige Verbindungsoffizier knüpfte die Verbindung zwischen Wortmann und der 65 Corps Support Squadron RE. Die 65 Corps Support Squadron wollten und haben gerne geholfen. Sie kamen mit einem Tieflader und einer Seddon Atkinson Zugmaschine zum Kraftwerk und der Hebekran des Maschinenhauses im KWG hievte den Waggon auf den Tieflader. Mit langsamer und somit sicherer Fahrt ging es vom Kraftwerk bis zur FTZ Kirchohsen in der Reherstraße. Dort warteten zwei Mobile Kräne der 65 Corps Support Squadron mit Ihren Kranführern. Der Waggon wurde mit Ketten an die Ausleger der Kräne gehängt und ganz sachte auf den vom THW und Emmerthaler Bauhof vorgefertigten Platz gehoben. Danke an Alan Tyson-Carter, die 65 Corps Support Squadron RE und natürlich Humphrey dem Maskottchen der Squadron.
