Royal Engineers at the Heisenküche Hameln
The Royal Engineers are not just known for their maneuvers—they often contribute significantly to local infrastructure as well. A notable example took place in August 1974: during a military exercise, the Royal Engineers of the 35 Engineer Regiment RE, based in Hameln, constructed several roads in the Hameln city forest, specifically in the Heisenküche forestry district. Using two front-end loaders, a bulldozer, and a grader, the regiment’s men levelled timber storage areas and built access roads for timber transport. These roads and storage areas were then covered and compacted with gravel sourced from the forest’s own quarry.

Die Royal Engineers sind nicht nur für militärische Manöver bekannt – sie leisten oft auch praktische Beiträge zur Infrastruktur. Ein Beispiel hierfür fand im August 1974 statt: Während eines Manövers errichteten die Royal Engineers des 35. Engineer Regiment RE aus Hameln mehrere Wege im Stadtforst Hameln, im Bereich der Revierförsterei Heisenküche. Mit zwei Schaufelladern, einer Planierraupe und einem Grader ebneten die Soldaten Holzlagerplätze und bauten Zufahrtswege für die Holzabfuhr. Diese Wege und Lagerplätze wurden anschließend mit Schotter aus dem forsteigenen Steinbruch bedeckt und verdichtet.
