Organisation / Structure

In this section I have tried to display the structures of the regiments and squadrons of Hamelin! I don’t know they are really right, because the 28th has a very far-reaching, complex and often changing structure! Therefore, if you have any corrections, feel free to contact me!

    Stefan,
I am not an expert on Tartans .Your painting is not 100% clear . So I can suggest the tartan shown in the painting is a Piper’s Tartan called “Royal Stuart”. The variations in colour of various Tartans is bewildering to a novice ! You really need an expert. The Regiment may have been The Royal Scots ? Hope this helps get you started.

I am writing this on behalf of my father. I was with him while he was O.C. of 408 Bridge Troop in Hameln. I was an engineering student and remember tales about Cpl.Maikin – he drove a U.S. Army jeep ! He was an amazing mechanic but as my father said”always needed an oil change”. My Father was very fond of him and often relied on his incerdible skills and ‘can-do’ attitude. We spent hours discussing the numerous short-comings of the Coles cranes. They would literally spin thier wheels off on the autobahn! We discussed the Iron Fairy crane and how to improve it. Maikin always had the best ideas.
When my father retired he bought a house with a ‘bridging hard’ and a big river at the bottom of the garden. There was an R.E. camp next door almost! He cleared the view of the river and we often discussed how we would plan and install a Bailey bridge that the villagers desperately needed. Once a Royal Engineer always..
