1972 Exercise Swordfish – Newspaper Cuts by HNA

© Hessisch Allgemeine Zeitung

A few weeks ago, I got some very great photos by Bill Crone. You will find out here: Swordfish by Bill Crone.  Bill wasn’t sure about the name of the exercise, but now I’m sure it was the Exercise Swordfish in 1972. I found some newspaper cuts of the HNA with some photos. On the 1st photo you see the same place with the same markings (white lines) on the banks. Must be the same! Swordfish was an exercise together with troops from Denmark and German Army. The Ex was held from 6th until 20th October 1972 by the 12th (UK) mech.Brigade. A special „SECRET WEAPON“ brought in by a Danish Colonel. Inside of a violin case he carried a  bottle of port, a bottle of whiskey, dice, knob, card game and a few beakers.

01-04.12.1996 – Exercise Neptunes Frost – Official handover of the M3 to the 28 Engineer Regiment

© Arnd Wöbbeking © Eckhard Uhde

Vom 01.-04.

+++

From 01.-04. In 1996 Exercise „NEPTUNES FROST“ took place in Hameln and the surrounding area. This Exercise was a turning point for the regiment, as it was officially equipped with new amphibious vehicles. A typical british weather it was, so my friend Eckhard Uhde told me, when he gave me his pictures about this historic event.  I would like to thank him very much. Alan Tyson-Carter was at that time the liaison officer here in Hameln. With this report, I have been waiting deliberately until today, because now that it is published, the M3 Rigs are exactly 20 years in the service of the British Army. They are still used in Minden by 23 Amphibious Troop RE. 16CP01-16CP38 these are the registrations of the M3 and another special report will appear during the week.

1982 Squadron Exercise between Hagen-und Kirchohsen

(c) Arnd Wöbbeking (c) all photos by Graeme Smith

+++++

The „Cold War“ was also here in Emmerthal. A few weeks ago I met Graeme Smith! He was at 64 Amphibious Engineer Squadron of 28 Amphibious Engineer Regiment from February 82 – July 83. After three years he comes back and started again in 64 Amphibious Engineer Squadron as a clerk then going to RHQ in the intelligence cell then onto 71 AESS as leave & movements clerk. I was very surprised when I saw his pictures! They were taken during a Squadron Exercise between Hagenohsen and Kirchohsen! I never thought that there are photos of them! The exercise was in 1982, when I was in 8th grade and on my way home I saw this Exercise!

Many thanks Graeme for the photos!
